How to send a Payment Link to a Patient by SMS
Learn how to send a secure payment link by text message so a patient can pay the balance due for an appointment.
Important: Payment links by SMS require UnifiedPay to be activated and a valid mobile phone number saved to the patient's Patient File.
Step 1: Navigate to the Billing Info page
- Navigate to the Patient File.
- Under the Appointments tab, click the Date of Service you want to send a payment link for.
You will be taken to the Billing Info tab for that appointment.
Step 2: Send the payment link
Once the invoice has been generated and there is a Balance Due:
- Click Send Payment Link.
- Select SMS to send the payment link by text message, or Both to send it by both email and text message.

Don't see SMS or Both? These options will only appear if the patient has a valid mobile phone number saved to their Patient File. You can add or update the patient's phone number under the Personal tab of their Patient File.
Once the payment link is sent, the date and time it was last sent will display.
Step 3: Patient completes the payment
The patient will receive an SMS (text message) with a Secure Payment button they can tap to access the secure payment page.

The secure payment page will display your clinic logo and clinic name, along with the patient's name, payment amount, and appointment date and time.

The patient can enter their card information and click Pay to complete the payment. No Patient Portal login is required.
Step 4: Payment confirmation
Once the payment is successfully completed:
- The patient will see a confirmation message.
- The payment will automatically be allocated to the services and/or products for that Date of Service.
